Summer Reading Program

Our 2017 Summer Reading Program theme will be Build a Better World.  We ill be offering a variety of fun and edulcational programs for kids going into 5th grade and younger related to building, designing, creating, and making the world a better place.  And of course, lots of great reading!  CLICK HERE to learn more about all the fun things we have planned for this summer.
 

Winter/Spring Storytimes

The Olathe Public Library offers a variety of storytimes for children ages 5 and younger.  No registration is required, but space may be limited.  For some storytimes, tickets will be handed out 15 minutes before the program begins.  We encourage you to determine which storytime session is most appropriate for your child and family.

NOTE:  There will be no storytimes during the week of Spring Break, March 13 - 17.

Come to Stagecoach Park for a free 30 minute preschool storytime provided by the Olathe Public LIbrary. No registration required.  In case of bad weather, the storytime will be held inside the community center.

CELEBRATE CHILDREN'S BOOK WEEK WITH FLY GUY - For all ages

Let's dance! Come shake, shimmy, and dance up a storm at our preschool dance party, featuring favorite songs from our children's music collection.  No registration, but space is limited.  Tickets will be handed out on a first come, first served basis starting 30 minutes before the program.  Program will last 20 - 30 minutes.

CELEBRATE CHILDREN'S BOOK WEEK WITH A BOOK BALL - For all ages

Join us as we conclude Children's Book Week with the Olathe Public Library Book Ball!  Come dressed as your favorite book character, or wearing your library best, for games, snacks, and more!  Program will last about 45 minutes.  Tickets will be handed out 15 minutes before program begins.

FREE COMIC BOOK DAY @ OPL! - For K - 5th grade

10:00 a.m. until supply is exhausted @ Downtown

Kids in K - 5th grade:  Be a part of Free Comic Book Day!  Come to Children's Servces at the Downtown Library starting at 10:00 a.m. and pick up a FREE kid-friendly comic book for you to keep!  While you're there, check out the ibrary's awesome collection of comics and graphic novels, which are free to borrow every day.  Comics will be avaiable while supplies; supply is limited.  OPL thanks our partner, Elite Comics in Overland Park, for procuring our free comics.

R.E.A.D. TO A DOG - For young readers of all ages

Saturday, May 6
1:30 - 2:30 p.m. @ Indian Creek

Young readers of all ages may drop by and read to a cuddly canine  between 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. at the Indian Creek Library.  Upon arrival, check in at Children's Services for a reading time.  Reading sessions will be limited and available on a first come, first served basis.  Trained therapy dogs provided by Pets for LIfe, Inc.

1,000 BOOKS BEFORE KINDERGARTEN

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten! is a free program is designed to encourage you to read 1,000 books to your child before he or she enters kindergarten.  Click here to learn more and find out how you can get started.

FAMILY READ-ALOUD CLUB
